Symbian reveals Horizon developer program

updated 01:00 pm EDT, Thu July 16, 2009

Symbian developer program

Symbian Foundation, the originator of the Symbian OS, has announced a new developer program meant to foster the popularity of Symbian apps. Called Horizon, it is slated to aid in the distribution and marketing of titles, as well as limited troubleshooting in terms of production. Companies should also have access to language translation services, making it more practical to sell an app across several markets.

A key aspect of the program is providing access to multiple app stores, including the Nokia Ovi Store, the AT&T MEdia Mall, and the Samsung Application Store. Developers have in the past had to negotiate deals separately. Horizon is currently scheduled to launch in October; groups confirmed as partners so far include Ustream, Wine.com, National Public Radio and UK newspaper The Guardian.
