Presenter Pro, Police Scan

  • Dopplr (free) can locate a user and then recommend nearby places to eat, stay, or explore. The application comes with a built-in database of recommendations which cover 250 cites around the world. Users can also add their own locations to the database and access recommendations from other Dopplr users.

  • iBank Mobile ($5) allows users to store transaction information on an iPhone or iPod touch. As transactions occur users can record them in the application and sort them into the accounts that they affect. The application also features the ability to sync transactions, accounts, categories and currencies with the iBank desktop application. Syncing can be done over a local Wi-Fi connection, through MobileMe accounts, or through any WebDAV server.

  • Apimac Idea ($2) is a tool for taking and organizing notes. Users can fill the screen up with small notes and organize them by dragging them around the screen. The application also includes the option to select a background image from a gallery of images created by professional photographers and graphic artists. Notes can also be archived for later access.

  • Presenter Pro ($5) includes tips that can be used to help prepare and enhance presentations. The information has been broken up into six categories, structure, visuals, words, voice, gestures, and practice. Each category includes a list of ideas some of which include visuals and practice exercises. The application also includes a notes section for recording comments and a checklist feature for storing any information a user may want to refer to later.

  • Police Scanner ($3) is a tool for locating and listening in on police dispatch frequencies. Over 500 EMS operations stream their dispatch communications on the Internet. Police Scanner uses the location-aware technology in the iPhone to locate streams near them which can then be selected and listened to. Along with an interface update the latest version now updates a users location in the background. The update also remembers the last used audio stream and can automatically return to it the next time the application is launched.
