KONTAKT 3.5 update
Native Instruments has released v3.5 of KONTAKT, its dedicated sampling software. Aside from supplying samples, the software performs functions such as looping and tempo sync. The new version concentrates on performance, for instance introducing multi-core and mulit-processor support, making better use of Intel Macs.
The upgrade further reduces memory consumption in disc streaming, and introduces the KONTAKT Memory Server, raising the usable RAM ceiling on Macs to 32GB. Changes unrelated to performance include a new rack display of libraries and instruments, KSP aftertouch interpretation, and direct MIDI learn for parameter controls. Also present are improved automapping, better Pro Tools compatibility with Mac OS X Leopard, and individual bypasses for effect slots.
KONTAKT 3 costs $449, and requires Mac OS X 10.4. The v3.5 patch is a free download for existing v3.x owners.
