Apple wins MacBook Pro, Cinema Display trademarks

updated 04:15 pm EDT, Mon July 13, 2009

MBP, C. Display trademarks

Apple has won a collection of important design trademarks from the European Trademark and Design Office, divided between two major products. A full 30 belong to the unibody MacBook Pro, which uses a unique chassis built out of a single block of aluminum. Also covered is the notebook's multi-touch trackpad, which omits a visible button in favor of one situated beneath.

Nine design trademarks have been assigned for Apple's most recent Cinema Display, a 24-inch version with LED backlighting. The monitor is Apple's only model with LED technology, which not only improves brightness but also color reproduction and overall power efficiency. Notable names credited behind both the Cinema Display and the MacBook Pro include Apple CEO Steve Jobs, and the company's senior VP of industrial design, Jonathan Ive.
