Crucial prepping fast notebook SSD line

updated 03:25 pm EDT, Fri July 10, 2009

Crucial M225 Preview

Crucial this afternoon said it should have a major update to its solid-state drive line later this month. The 2.5-inch M225 series will use more up to date multi-level cell (MLC) storage and a new memory controller that significantly improves speed. Estimates put the peak performance of the fastest, 256GB drive at 250MB per second for data reads and 200MB per second for writes.

Alongside this largest capacity SSD, a 128GB version will ship with slightly lower 190MB per second write speeds, while a 64GB entry version will scale down to 200MB per second reads and 150MB per second when writing. All three will use an ASATA II interface and should receive a more official release on July 20th.
