Mac iPhone 3GS unlock tool
George Hotz, creator of purplera1n, the first iPhone 3GS jailbreak tool, has announced that a Mac version is now available. In his blog, Hotz explains that he is not familiar with Mac coding and gives credit to AriX and westbaer for the port. The hack is still considered to be in the beta stage and users are reminded to backup any important data before attempting the unlock. The file weighs in at 458 KB and is available on the purplera1n website.
The original Windows version of purplera1n was release on Friday and has now undergone two updates. The first update added support for Vista and Windows 7 and cleaned up some of the bugs users were reporting. The latest release, RC2a, has improved overall stability but is not a necessary update if a successful jailbreak was performed using the RC2 version of the tool.

The hack apparently requires an Intel-based Mac: The app's icon is x'd out on my iMac G5, and I'm told it's "unsupported on this architecture" when I try to open it.
Just trying to save headaches for any PPC holdouts left out there. :)
