Broken iPhone screens now replaceable at retail

Retail iPhone screen swaps

Owners of an iPhone with a broken screen can now have the display replaced at an Apple Store, reports say. Apple has typically kept most of its iPhone repairs out of retail, instead relying on central facilities to have a device fixed if it is not simply swapped. Replacing a display involves a special machine, which removes the old one using suction, allowing a new one to be attached with minimum struggle.

Screen replacement is said to be the only warranty repair stores are now handling directly. Other repair options are available however, such as work on the audio hardware of an iPhone. Displays may need fixing due to a variety of defects, such as dust stuck between layers.

    How much?

And can we wait for it while at the store?

    Confusion

Are they talking about the glass screen or the display itself? The former is much easier to fix than the latter.

    the same?

Aren't they one and the same? I recall the surface glass is specially etched or something. (I may be all wet).

    Not the same

The original was bonded to the glass but not the 3G and 3GS.

    Cost?

And, our local apple store will replace the screen for the low, low price of what?

I just had my screen break. I was so happy to hear about http://www.iphone3gscreenrepair.com. They repaired my phone for only $69.99. I was very satisfied.
