AMD Radeon HD 4200 to fight NVIDIA's 9400?

Radeon HD 4200 Leak

AMD is developing an integrated graphics chipset for budget PCs that could take the performance crown in the category, a leaked roadmap shows. Codenamed RS880 but likely to be badged Radeon HD 4200 when it ships, the design will have a new graphics core that should run about 15 percent faster than "anything comparable" on the market, implying that NVIDIA's GeForce 9400 or 9400M may be the primary targets. The Inquirer adds that it should support AMD's Stream general-purpose computing technology and, by extension, would eventually support OpenCL.

Little else is known about the 4200's core features other than that it will support DirectX 10.1-level features and their equivalents in OpenGL. AMD may have it ready by late August and should have a significant lead over any truly quick integrated graphics from Intel, which is now believed to have at least half a year ahead of it before it ships a rough equivalent.

    Fair?

Isn't Nvidia about to release a new version of it's integrated graphics? Isn't that the the one to witch AMD should really be compared?

    Wont compete directly...

Unless AMD is going to start making Intel PCHs, then AMD will have a competitor for the integrated graphics/netbook-ish platform. But the 4200 wont be a replacement for the 9400M/Ion.

    9400 vs 4200

well NVIDIA 9400 for Intel is a copy of NVIDIA 8400 for AMD

a AMD 780G chipset that has a HD 3200 graphics core is just as fast as a geforce 9400/8400

AMD 790GX chipset is even faster than the NVIDIA 9400/ION/8400 chipsets

now that AMD 785G comes out it will be even faster than all other IGPs

do not be so blind by nvidia marketing
well if you buy a GTS250 you get a rebranded 8800 series :p

same goes for ion thats basicly a 9400 chipset
