Cellular South netbook

Wireless provider Cellular South on Wednesday announced it will soon sell its own subsidized 3G-capable netbook, the 10.1-inch Dell Inspiron Mini 10. Its version, like that for AT&T, holds an internal 3G modem that supplies long-range data access wherever the carrier has coverage. As a CDMA carrier, though, Cellular South will use EVDO instead of HSPA.

The Mini 10 on offer is powered by a 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPU and 1GB of RAM, and also features a GPS sensor and a 160GB hard drive that's preloaded with Windows XP. The netbook still has Wi-Fi beyond the 3G link and has a multi-touch trackpad in addition to an edge-to-edge keyboard. It weighs 2.6lbs.

Cellular South will sell the Mini 10 for $199 with a new two-year mobile broadband contract, letting buyers choose between a $40 monthly 500MB plan, or a $60, 5GB option. Students are eligible for a 20 percent discount on the plans.
