Verizon sets BlackBerry Tour ship date, price

updated 07:15 am EDT, Tue June 30, 2009

Verizon BBerry Tour Dated

Verizon today confirmed launch information for its version of the BlackBerry Tour. As spotted in leaks, the smartphone should ship both online and in retail on July 12th and will carry its expected price of $200 when tied to a two-year contract. The company hasn't yet detailed custom software but is likely to support VZ Navigator and already stresses the phone's dual-mode CDMA/GSM support for calling (and EDGE data) abroad.

The Tour is Verizon's first modern, non-touch BlackBerry and has the 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS and 480x360 display of the Curve 8900 but the keyboard and 3G (now through EVDO) of the Bold. Sprint is also slated to carry the new BlackBerry but hasn't established a concrete release date for the phone, which may be moved to August to avoid cannibalizing sales of the Palm Pre.
