Catapult Aperture plug-in
Brushed Pixel has announced Catapult, a new Aperture plug-in designed to integrate external RAW photo converters. Supported software currently includes Adobe Camera Raw, typically associated with Photoshop, and Nikon's proprietary Capture utility. Catapult automatically exports RAW files to one of the converters, and imports the resulting JPEG or TIFF files, all the while stacking versions together to keep photos organized.
Non-destructive editing is handled through archiving and pairing XMP data with new imports -- if a user decides to edit a TIFF or JPEG, the original RAW file is again exported with the XMP data, allowing users to start where they previously left off. Batch processing allows users to process several hundred or more RAW files at once through a single command.
Camera Raw export provides support for every major RAW-capable camera brand, while Nikon Capture is geared only towards Nikon NEF files. Brushed Pixel is promising an early July launch for Catapult; full requirements have not been published. The plug-in is slated to cost $50.
