Rogers makes Nokia 5800 XpressMusic official

updated 09:05 am EDT, Mon June 22, 2009

Nokia 5800 XM at Rogers

Rogers this morning became the first major North American carrier to adopt the 5800 XpressMusic. The first touchscreen Nokia phone shows in Canada with native 3G and is very close to the reference Symbian S60 platform with the exception of a new urMusic app for shopping from Rogers' store for music or concert tickets. Rogers allows Nokia Maps to serve as the GPS navigation option rather than offering its own.

The 5800 still has its 3.2-megapixel camera, Wi-Fi and a relatively sharp 640x360 display. It uses microSDHC for storage; Rogers hasn't said what if any card it's bundling, though most editions usually come with an 8GB card in the box. Regardless of competition with the iPhone, Rogers is pricing the smartphone at $200 when mated with a three-year plan. Shipments start tomorrow.

So the iPhone 3G at 100 is going to slaughter this thing. I bet we sell twelve.

where's the news? that Rogers will sell you a locked version of this phone for $400? Unlocked versions have been available from resellers for months for less than that.
