Second iPhone 3GS teardown

Little has changed in the layout of the iPhone 3G S, a second teardown reveals. Going beyond the included chips and manufacturers, iFixit notes that the arrangement of parts in the 3G S is "virtually identical" to that of the iPhone 3G, to the extent that even experienced technicians may have trouble distinguishing designs. The most significant change is said to be the rearrangement of components to the front side of the PCB, including chips for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth and flash storage.

An extra antenna connection is said to be present near the dock connector, though for what reason is uncertain. The battery is meanwhile rated at 1219mAh, or 4.51Wh. Although 6 percent larger than the one in the 3G, it is thought that the new battery cannot be the source of the 3G S' longevity. Apple may instead be using more efficient chips and circuitry, iFixit comments.

    Surprising!

So two iPhone 3G S are built similarly... Impressively shocking!

    No, you idiot....

The comparison was between the iPhone 3G, and the iPhone 3GS -- not two iPhone 3GS, as you somehow pulled out of your a**.

    Surprising!

So the incremental upgrade of the iPhone 3G shares similarities with its predecessor... impressively shocking!

    Chips ahoy!

A work of art. There appears to be less parts than the Pre which could be a good thing. Easier to disassemble but maybe more expensive to replace parts. What's usually gonna be needed to be replaced? Front glass and maybe the battery. That's it.

    Antenna improvements

Recently there was a breakthrough in antenna technology which could significantly reduce power requirements. Check out this Slashdot story:
