CrossOver 8.0 adds support for IE7, QuickBooks 2009

CrossOver update

CodeWeavers has released an update to its Windows virtualization software, CrossOver Mac 8.0. The latest version now supports a number of new programs including Internet Explorer 7 and Quicken 2009. Performance has been improved while running Microsoft Office 2007, particularly with Outlook. The company attributes a significant portion of the expanded compatibility to the growing Wine Project, an initiative that is working to allow Windows-coded programs to work on other operating systems.

CrossOver 8.0 Mac Standard is now available to download for $40, while the Pro variant carries a price of $70. The Pro edition doubles the support and upgrade time-frame to 12 months, while also including a copy of CrossOver Games.

    Too late for Intuit

I moved my business accounting to Clarity Accounting last year because Quickbooks solutions on the Mac just plain stink. The Windows version of Quickbooks on Crossover would have been a possible solution, but now I have found I like Clarity better anyway. Intuit, you get what you deserve for treating Mac users as second-class customers.

    IE 7 doesn't work well

Just tried IE 7 under Crossover, and it doesn't work well -- I can't log into Outlook Web Access services.

Crossover is a wonderful idea, but its execution leaves a lot to be desired.
