Samsung Jet

Samsung's phone introductions today have been bolstered by the addition of the Jet, a high-end media device that claims a rare record in the field. The touchscreen uses a Samsung-made 800MHz processor nicknamed the Jet Engine that the company says makes it the fastest full touch phone in existence. To exploit the added speed, the Jet comes with a newer web browser known as Dolfin that uses WebKit for accurate rendering and can not only have as many as five pages active at once but can export websites as widgets for TouchWiz 2.0, which also brings a 3D cube interface for apps and media.

As with many of Samsung's more advanced phones in 2009, the Jet has an 800x480 AMOLED display and supplies a 5-megapixel camera with 480p video capture, 3G over HSPA, GPS and Wi-Fi. About 2GB of memory is built-in for storage and is supported by a microSDHC slot.

Launch plans aren't definite, but Samsung indicates that it may release the Jet for the US in the future.

Wow, I bet it comes with a whopping 5 minutes of battery life too, with all of that in it! And only 3 pounds!

Seriously, feature overload here. No need for everything that has (and how much benefit is a really fast processor in those types of things anyways? All it brings is more eye-candy to drain the battery.)

BTW, what is an AMOLED screen? Never heard of it, though I hope for their sake it's a low-power version, so they might could get 10 minutes of battery life out of this thing.

    Good competition

While the Samsung OS if a far cry from the iPhone, it's one of the better basic touch phones. And the battery life on their phones is incredible. I've got a Finesse that's going over a week without being recharged yet.

    Another wonder

handset that Samsung won't be able to sell in quantity due to high costs. I wonder what OS this thing is going to use. Android or WinMo? Everyone will want to know why Apple didn't build the iPhone like this, I'm sure. I say it's overfeatured. They could have used a 412 MHz processor and kept the AMOLED for better battery life. I guess the 5MP camera is OK.

Yeah, they went one step beyond the Pre and iPhone with processing power. Good for them.

But i bet that for running the same task Samsung made their Processor more battery friendly than a 412MHz

    looks nice

And it has a front-facing camera for video calls. Too bad about the OS, though. This would have made a sweet Android phone.

If it works as well as

If it works as well as the Samsung i910 does on it's battery, expect about 20 minutes of use before needing to be recharged. My i910 gets hot and battery life goes out the window whenever I try to use the web browser on it. This is with no other applications running. If I use the web browser for 5 minutes the battery indicator goes down 1 of it's 4 bars. The phone does a lot, but it's a pain in the a** to use and I feel like I can only use the web function sparingly to just maintain the phone as a phone. If I'm in a wifi hotspot, I'll use my Touch, it's easier to access the web plus it will run for hours.
