Qwest readying 40Mbps DSL service?

Qwest 40Mbps DSL Soon

Internet provider Qwest is planning to fight off faster cable and fiber optic access with an ultra high-speed option of its own, an insider says. A source within Qwest tells BBR the company is rolling out a VDSL2 infrastructure that resembles fiber-to-the-node and would more than double existing speeds. Downstream bandwidth would be twice as fast at 40Mbps, but upload speed would jump from 896Kbps to 20Mbps on the best possible plan.

This maximum tier, dubbed Ultimate+, would cost $110 per month, or just slightly higher than Comcast's $100 50Mbps service. A slightly downgraded Ultimate service would reduce only the upload speed to 5Mbps in return for a cheaper $100 service. Other more conventional levels of access would also get upgrades as a result, with Platinum+, Titanium+ and Quantum+ having speeds of 7Mbps, 12Mbps and 20Mbps downstream while all uploading at 5Mbps.

If the tip is accurate, Qwest would launch its VDSL2 as soon as this month in Denver and would focus primarily on urbanized areas.

    customer service

    It would be nice if Qwest improved its service to the Mac community. Where I live it is a joke when you get on the phone with someone who "thinks" that MS is the only system people should be using.

    How M$esque.

    Quest is getting their competitive philosophy from microsoft. Come out with a product that's almost as good for a slightly higher price a few years after your competitor and expect people to just love your steaming pile of nothing.

    How about this Quest. Make DSL twice as fast as cable for half the cost and your customer service the industry standard. I'll be your first customer.

    I have comcast cable but I helped my aunt set up her Qwest internet and it is really unbelievable how little Mac knowledge their customer support has.

    The Mac has such a

    tiny footprint in the U.S. it's a wonder Qwest customer support has ever even heard of it. Being a Mac fanatic doesn't help anything. Windows will probably hold the majority of the market until computers cease to exist. It's American as Apple pie and is used all around the world. If OSX ever gets above 15% in the U.S. it will be a miracle. Corporations will never give up Windows and that's that. I've used RoadRunner cable for years with my Macs and they almost never had any utilities or anything for any Mac OSs. They didn't believe in supporting a nearly dead OS.

    huh?

    What in the world are you people contacting customer service all the time for? Its an internet connection. You set up your computer's DNS and DHCP (or PPPoE) settings and be done with it.
