Palm Eos confirmed through Pre code?

updated 01:25 pm EDT, Wed June 10, 2009

Palm Eos found in Pre code

The existence of Palm's next webOS phone after the Pre, the Eos, has allegedly been confirmed through investigation into code. Buried in the current version of webOS is a file called miniboot.sh, which contains two device references, Castle and Pixie. The former is known to have been the development codename of the Pre, while leaks have attributed the latter alias to the Eos. No other relevant information has so far been found in the firmware.

Current rumors suggest that the Eos will launch with AT&T in the fall, and serve as a replacement for the Centro, Palm's popular but final PalmOS smartphone. It is expected to use a 2.6-inch multi-touch display, combined with an inline keyboard; it may also offer 3G access, unlike GSM versions of the Centro. A two-megapixel camera and 4GB of internal storage are anticipated, but the phone may lose Wi-Fi, as well as dedicated GPS in favor of the assisted variety.
