HP's dual-core dv2z arrives with Turion Neo option

updated 12:05 pm EDT, Wed June 10, 2009

HP dv2z and Mini 110 Ready

HP today acted on two of its planned system updates by launching them through its online store, including an unannounced processor. The new dv2z costs slightly more than promised at $625 but now has a white color trim option and starts with a single-core 1.6GHz Athlon Neo, 1GB of RAM and a 250GB hard drive with Radeon X1250 integrated video. Adding a dual-core 1.6GHz processor costs $25; in a surprise, an option now exists for a 1.6GHz Turion Neo that likely boosts performance still for an additional $75.

AMD hasn't announced the part itself, but the Turion Neo doubles the Level 2 cache to 1MB.

A Radeon HD 3410 dedicated graphics chipset is available in addition to up to 4GB of RAM and a 500GB hard drive.

Alongside the dv2z, the Mini 110 has also become available and matches its original launch specs. The Mini 110 Mi runs on HP's simplified Mi version of Linux which disables the command line but has quicker access to common tasks. At $279, it starts with a 1.6GHz Atom, 1GB of RAM and an 8GB flash drive. Options bring it up to a 1.66GHz Atom, 2GB of RAM and either a 250GB rotating drive or a 64GB solid-state drive.

The Mini 110 XP edition costs $330 but doubles the default storage to 16GB in addition to the more expensive OS. Many of its choices are identical to the Mi, but it can also be given internal 3G. No mentions are made of the Broadcom chip to accelerate HD playback, however.
