Apple ships new MBPs

Apple has already begun shipping the new MacBook Pro models launched on Monday at the WWDC keynote. The company made changes across the entire line, with new 13-inch MacBook Pros integrating either a 2.26GHz or 2.53GHz CPU for $1,200 and $1,500, respectively. The refreshed 15-inch models are available with 2.53GHz to 2.8GHz CPUs and 250GB to 500GB hard drive options, while prices range from $1,700 to $2,300 depending on configuration. Apple dropped the price on the 17-inch MacBook Pro to $2,500, while increasing the CPU speed to 2.8GHz and the hard drive capacity to 500GB.

Both of the new 13-inch models are shipping within 24 hours from Apple's online store, along with the 2.53GHz and 2.66GHz 15-inch variants, while the 2.8GHz 15-inch MacBook Pro is expected to ship within 1-2 business days. The updated 17-inch model is also available in the 24-hour timeframe.

    why is this news?

Apple on Monday stated "Shipping TODAY!".

MacNN on Tuesday reports "Apple's already shipping them!" - implying somehow Apple actually doing what they said the day before, to be news.

    what I miss

I will miss the easy way to upgrade the hard drives that the former MacBooks offered -- with the battery sealed away, so are the hard drives now -- I am actually considering just picking up the prior generation MacBook Pro for that reason, albeit the 7 hrs battery life is tempting.

    two handed...

This is the same old story of why the Apple logo has a bite out of it. You never get a complete Apple, always something missing and what they give with one hand they take with the other. Note the sp|dif I/O on the 13" is also gone along with the cardbus slot on the 15". Do pro's really want an SD card slot? My digital SLR's use compact flash!

    sad

I bought a 17" macbook pro 4 weeks ago. The $300 and extra HD space would have been nice.

Regarding the batter... I pretty much go the whole day without a charge, although you don't want the display at the brightest.

So far, the batter is great.

But that $300 and 180 extra GB is awfully nice :(

    Back to Screws

Guess a solid bottom piece is essential for that unibody feel; still, not too bad given what you get for a really sleek laptop. After all, how often are you upgrading your hard drive?

    Missed my return by 4days

I was pissed when this came out! I bought a 2.4 ghz 15" macbook pro for 2 grand at best buy only 18 days ago, and now my same mbp is only 1599!!! The wouldn't let me get the price diff, and wouldn't let me upgrade to the better one that is now the price i paid!

They should have some type of upgrade for people that got suckered into buying the last models which cost more then the new models!

So apparently the new MacBooks no longer make use of that industrial design of the unibody case they so proudly claimed at the beginning of the year?

After all, how often are you upgrading your hard drive?

It's not about how often you do it, it's about not having to spend an hour performing the action.

But this isn't that bad. It's just 10 screws. I switched out the hard drive in my MBP and it was one big pain in the a** (the case top no longer fits as smoothly as it once did).
