In brief: New York City will be hosting the CEA Line Shows exhibit next week and will include presentations on trends in the technology industry. The event will also play host to a new Mobile Apps Shootout which gives developers a 90 second opportunity to pitch their product. Developers who currently have access to the iPhone 3.0 beta can install a new app from ArcTouch which takes advantage of some of the OS's new features. The application can be downloaded from the companies website now and will become available in the App Store after the official launch of iPhone 3.0. Chillingo has also announced that it will soon be releasing a new application in Apple's App Store. It's new game, Minigore, is nearly finished and should be available in the next couple of weeks. The company is also running a contest to go with the games launch and is offering the winner a chance to become a character in the game.
The CEA Line Shows exhibit will be taking place next week in New York City and will feature a new Mobile Apps Shootout competition. The show will include demonstrations from Toshiba, Mitsubishi and Monster who will discuss current trends in the technology industry. The event will run on 10th and 11th and starts of Wednesday morning with a presentation on how yearly predictions made in January are holding up. Other sessions include information on setting up a home theater, different smartphone models, netbooks, and more. The Mobile Apps Shootout gives developers an opportunity to show off their products in front of press and attendees at the event. Each developer is given 90 seconds to pitch their mobile application and the crowds reaction will be measured using an applause-o-meter.
ArcTouch has released a new iPhone application that takes advantage of some of the new features in iPhone OS 3.0. The application is not yet available in the App Store but anyone who is currently running the iPhone OS beta can access the application and source code, compile it, and run it on their device. The application, Beam It!, allows users to send contact information wirelessly between iPhone and iPod touch devices. The software uses the new peer to peer connectivity features and is able to automatically discovery other devices running the application. The company decided to release this early so that developers attending WWDC next week would be able to exchange information easily.
Chillingo has announced that it will soon be releasing a new game in the App Store. puts players in control of a small, and square shaped character known as John Gore. Players must defend him from an invasion of hairy, and round enemies called the Furries who also have particularly sharp teeth. The game features three different types of Furry, a small Minifurry, a regular Furry, and a Giant Furry. As the Giant Furries are attacked they will split up into several smaller Furries and then again into Minifurries. Chillingo is also currently running a contest related to the game in order to come up with a catchy tag-line. Entries for the contest can be made up six words or less and must be submitted online before June. 13th. The finalists will be announced at a later time and the winner will then by picked by a public vote. The winner will then be featured in the game as a sculpted 3D model of themselves.
