Pixelmator software ships

Smith Micro has announced that it will distribute Pixelmator, a photo and graphic editor from Pixelmator Team. The software offers over 130 effects and filters, and uses layers to handle tasks like painting, color correction and retouching. Using built-in Automator actions, Pixelmator can run batch processes, applying specified filters to a collection of images.

Among the 100 formats supported are JPEG, TIFF, PSD, PCT, PDF and GIF; in the case of Photoshop files, layers are carried over. Other features of the app include iPhoto browsing, one-click iSight captures, and the import of Photoshop brushes. Illustrators can take advantage of tablet support.

Pixelmator runs on Mac OS X 10.5.6 or later, and demands a Core Image-capable graphics card. Pricing is set at $60.
