MSI shows NVIDIA Ion-based WindBOX PC

MSI outs Ion-based WindBOX

At the Computex show currently taking place in Taiwan, MSI has shown off its WindBOX nettop PC powered by NVIDIA's Ion chipset. The computer's presence at the show indicates MSI is the latest to jump on the NVIDIA Ion bandwagon, with Acer and Lenovo confirmed to be releasing Ion-based PCs, with ASUS, Foxconn, Pegatron and, most recently, Dell and HP, rumored to be releasing their own as well.

MSI's WindBOX range has included 1.6GHz Intel Atom CPUs with integrated Intel GMA 950 graphics chipset and 1GB of RAM. All lack a cooling fan and are therefore quiet in operation, while the case doubles as the heatsink. VESA mount compatibility lets users attach the computer on the back of their monitors.

The NVIDIA Ion chipset, meanwhile, combines both an Intel Atom and a GeForce 9400M on a Pico-ITX mainboard. Apart from realizing space and power demand decreases, the chipset is claimed to be capable of playing back 1080p video files and bring otherwise superior graphics performance in netbooks.

As with other NVIDIA Ion-based systems, pricing or a release date for the MSI WindBOX with the Ion board is not known. [via AVING]
