AirPort 5.4.2 fixes bugs

Apple today released an update to its software for its line of branded wireless routers, including the AirPort Express Base Station, the AirPort Extreme Base Station, and Time Capsule. AirPort Utility 5.4.2 includes general fixes and compatibility updates for the following applications: AirPort Utility and AirPort Base Station Agent, Apple said. It also also installs AirPort Disk Utility on Macs running Tiger. An updated version for Windows PCs is also available.

The software update is available via the Web or Software Update preference pane as a 18.9MB download.

Specifically, the documentation says that it fixes the following issues:

  • An issue causing AirPort Utility to be unable to read certain AirPort wireless device configurations.

  • An issue causing AirPort Utility to sometimes be unable to discover an AirPort wireless device when Back To My Mac is enabled.

  • An issue causing AirPort Utility to sometimes be unable to download firmware.

  • An issue causing AirPort Utility to not correctly import Access Control Lists created in AirPort Admin Utility 4.x

  • Added the ability in AirPort Utility to show all wireless passwords in the "Equivalent Network Password" sheet.

I still wish they'd update the software so that my Express could function with Time Machine so that my non-Time Capsule external hard drive could function as a wireless back-up.
