Rogers Ships Android w 6GB

As promised, Canadian provider Rogers today launched its Android phone lineup. The carrier is the first outside of T-Mobile to use Android in North America and the first to have an official version of the HTC Magic. Both it and the HTC Dream vary from the T-Mobile G1 through extra hooks for Rogers services as well as built-in Microsoft Exchange push mail support.

The HTC Dream is a close relative of the G1 with a slide-out QWERTY keyboard plus a 3.2-megapixel camera, GPS and Wi-Fi. The Magic drops the keyboard but is slimmer and gets both a longer battery as well as haptic feedback on its touchscreen. Both phones sell for $150 Canadian on a three-year plan that has to include both voice and data worth at least $45; the Dream comes in either black or white while the Magic is black only.

As part of the launch, Rogers today restored the $30 6GB data plan promo it had first introduced to address concerns over the iPhone last summer. Currently only for the Android devices, the deal lasts from now until July 1st and gives six times more data than usually available at the same price. The reappearance supports rumors that the 6GB plan will return for new iPhones and comes just as Rogers is adding MMS to iPhone value packs in preparation for iPhone 3.0 software.
