Rogers jacks up iPhone Value Pack costs, adds MMS

Rogers iPhone Value Packs

Canadian carrier Rogers has made some significant alterations to its iPhone Value Packs, which supplement the the basic voice and data plans for Apple's handheld with features like call display and text messaging. Of significance is that the Smartphone and Visual Voicemail packs are now $20 per month, having formerly cost $15. The Smartphone pack provides "enhanced" voicemail instead of the iPhone-native Visual format.

All of the packs, however, have been upgraded with unlimited MMS messaging, a preparation in advance of the feature's debut in iPhone 3.0 firmware. The change could signify that iPhone 3.0 is expected soon, possibly as early as Apple's WWDC event on June 8th. Rogers customers are also being given unlimited text messages with every pack, whereas the Smartphone and Visual Voicemail options were once restricted to 2,500 texts, whether sent or received.

Aside from MMS, the $35 Data Value Pack remains unchanged. Subscribers with any existing iPhone pack can continue to use them without paying new rates, but will miss out on MMS and unlimited texts. The new schemes take effect immediately.
