Additional matte-finish iPhone images surface

Matte finish iPhone images

An additional image has surfaced that allegedly shows the back case of an iPhone with a matte finish. The photo, posted on MacRumors, appears to match an earlier leak indicating a new finish for an unconfirmed revision. The form factor does not appear to be changed from the existing 3G model. It is unknown if the company has chosen a different material, possibly metal, to construct the back case.

A supposed third-generation bezel image surfaced earlier this week from a Hong Kong parts supplier. The design is different from the current model, with a black frame instead of the silver metallic finish of the current iPhone. If the leaked images are authentic, they would add evidence to suggestions that the upcoming iPhone will feature mostly internal changes.

Many expect Apple to launch a new family of iPhones at the upcoming WWDC keynote in June. Several analysts, however, claim the company could hold a special event following the conference to coincide with Steve Jobs' return from his leave of absence.

    yuck.

oh goodness - don't put them right next to each other - the matte-finish looks horridly industrial and unfinished :(

    yuck??

Are you kidding me? The matte finish looks a lot cleaner and sharper compared to the present iPhone 3g. The dark black finish looks a lot more appealing than the shiny plastic. You need to take another look...and a good one.

    Nice (possibly)

I would hope it's rubberised metal/plastic, making it nice and grippy. Quite a few things come with that finish these days (I have an external USB harddrive with it, for example), and I really like the texture it gives.

Would surely suit a phone well ...

    Somebody mentioned

that the grippy surface isn't good because it makes it harder to slip into your pocket. See, it's true that nobody can agree on anything. You could spray it with some silicone, but then it would be slippery in your hands. Tsk, tsk. What dilemmas we face. Now that Apple is using a grippy surface, all the companies will be using grippy surfaces, maybe even ribbed grips like some pistols use.

What external changes were people expecting? Growing a hump on the back to put in a larger battery. Dream on. This is probably the most efficient case design that Apple could use.

    ok

I think it looks better (except for the required junk text at the bottom being so much more obvious). But seriously how many iPhones are used without a case of some sort? So the back is hardly relevant anyway, except for the showroom floor. And in that setting not having a ton of fingerprints looks better. They should print the legally required stuff in grey instead of white though.

    re: ok

What? No iphones without cases? Are you kidding? When the people complained about iPods getting scratched they were told they should have bought cases to protect their ipods because they cost so much. So are your iPhones super-protected by special forces? Or do we get to call your friends idiots when they start complaining their screens get scratched?
