Google Wave comes to desktop, iPhone, Android

updated 01:55 pm EDT, Thu May 28, 2009

Google Wave

Google at its I/O conference today unveiled Google Wave, a new mixed form of communication seen as a substitute for e-mail and IM. The approach creates constant streams, or "waves," of conversation between multiple users drawn from Google contacts. Those participating in a wave can collaborate on documents, including sharing photos with the group as well as posting or editing text documents.

The service is platform-independent and should work in any web browser that supports HTML 5's newer real-time features. It will also be available for Android-based devices and iPhones through a mobile website optimized for the smaller screens. Wave is currently in private testing but is taking applications for a more public test at an unspecified point in the future.
