LG Ships LH55 HDTVs

LG today began shipping its LH55 TVs to stores. Having made its first appearance at CES, the line uses traditional cold-cathode fluorescent lighting but has a scanning backlight that boosts the LCD panel's refresh rate to 240Hz, significantly improving detail in fast-moving scenes. Most current TVs still use either regular 60Hz or 120Hz panels.

The sets also achieve an 80,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio and carry ambient light sensors that auto-dim the picture in dark environments to improve the contrast ratio further. Four HDMI inputs with CEC provide the bulk of its digital video connections.

LG provides the LH55 in 37-, 42-, 47- and 55-inch versions, all of which produce 1080p pictures. The 55-inch model's pricing isn't available, but the smaller screens vary in cost between $1,400 and $2,100.
