Apple clearing inventory?
Some telephone service providers have been dropping the price of the iPhone 3G and have begun offering cheaper cellular plans says Mundo Mac. The telephone companies are doing this in hopes of clearing inventory to prevent potential losses should consumers loose interest in the 3G upon the release of a new iPhone. Coincidentally, Apple is now offering the iPhone 3G through its online store for the first time, perhaps indicating a similar emptying of inventory.
These actions have been generated by speculation that there may be one or more new iPhones being released at this years WWDC. Some people believe the release will alternatively be pushed back to a surprise media event in order to include the return of CEO, Steve Jobs, in late June.

far fewer rumors this year of a new phone in june, strange, but id put my money on a later release. i also think updates will be minor (no extra camera or change in form).
