Toshiba sues Imation
Toshiba has announced that it has filed suit against several companies, including Imation, over DVD patents. The accusations surround DVD format specifications and standards accepted by the DVD Forum. Toshiba claims the companies infringed on patents by manufacturing or distributing recordable media without first establishing licensing agreements.
"The infringement of Toshiba's patents by these companies, has negatively affected Toshiba's business, and also caused damage to the legitimate and licensed DVD product manufacturing and distribution business as a whole," the filing reads.
Toshiba seeks monetary compensation for damages, along with an injunction to stop production, import, sales or use of the products in the United States. The company also desires to establish license agreements, either as a supplement to monetary damages or as an alternative resolution.
The case is still in the very beginning stages. It remains unknown if the parties plan to settle the dispute outside of court or continue toward a trial.
