Zune HD September

Microsoft's Zune HD is real and likely to appear on the company's now-traditional September unveiling schedule, SuperSite for Windows creator Paul Thurrott said on Wednesday. He cites those within Microsoft for the date and is supported by other contacts that echo the same claim. Hardware traits, as well as the actual ship date, haven't been corroborated.

The news further appears to debunk rumors of a major June update and should be accompanied by releases in the UK and other territories. The absence of the Zune outside of Canada and the US was given part of the blame poor holiday sales where the iPod and other devices have much wider distribution.

While definite specifications for the Zune HD aren't known, it's suspected that the player will not only have a touchscreen and Wi-Fi to match the iPod touch but will have an NVIDIA Tegra chip powerful enough to play HD video at native resolution. Some rumors have also hinted at multi-touch input and that the Zune HD may entirely replace the existing "click pad" design, with both flash and hard drive versions getting the same basic profile.

    Need Confirmation

What's Rob Enderle have to say about this? He's also a whiz with this MicroSoft stuff.

    once again

it's obvious it will be very much like the ipod touch because that's what they do, the obvious. of course it will be leaps and bounds behind the touch by the time it's released.

    NVIDIA Tegra chip

The NVIDIA Tegra chip is necessary to catch all the fast and subtle moves of Steve Ballmer doing the Monkey Boy Dance at the Microsoft Developers Conference.

This is why a company like MS is dangerous. Fail with a product year after year, losing millions or even billions that would normally break a company. Not MS. With automatic revenue from Windows Monopoly, they can fail for as long as it takes. Eventually they catch up and win the market.

slap, you're right. ballmer said a year or so ago that though ms isn't always first or best but they just keep coming and coming and coming...
they buy their way into a market. there would be no xbox or zune today if it wasn't for the cash cow twins.
