Sprint next to get MiFi 2200 3G/Wi-Fi hotspot

MiFi 2200 at Sprint

Sprint today signed itself up as the second US carrier to offer the Novatel MiFi 2200. Much like the Verizon edition, Sprint's device catches an EVDO Revision A Internet connection and shares it across an 802.11g Wi-Fi network, letting as many as five devices share the 3G link, including completely wirelessly when using the 4-hour battery. The new version primarily differs through its brushed-metal look compared to Verizon's all-black.

The carrier plans to match Verizon on initial price, selling the MiFi for $100 on a two-year contract, but hopes to undercut its challenger on data rates. While the $60 5GB data plan equals Verizon's, Sprint also estimates that a $150 monthly Simply Everything + Mobile Broadband plan should save about $600 for those who want both a smartphone and the MiFi router on the same provider. The router should ship in early June.
