Dell slips out sub-$150 20-inch LCD

updated 07:45 am EDT, Mon May 11, 2009

Dell ST2010 Launches Early

Without fanfare, Dell has today launched a new 20-inch LCD built for very entry-level systems. Released first in Hong Kong, the ST2010 has a 16:9 aspect ratio, 1600x900 resolution with a basic TN panel to keep costs down. In an unusual decision, however, the company drops regular DVI in favor of HDMI (with an audio pass-through) as well as VGA and makes a chin-mounted soundbar an option.

The screen also provides a 5ms pixel response time, a 1,000:1 static contrast ratio and a relatively small amount of adjustability with a 21-degree tilt backwards and no height or swivel movement. In the Chinese territory, the ST2010 sells for the equivalent of $142. Dell hasn't said whether or not it plans to bring the display to the US but typically sells its LCDs in all countries. Not too shabby

That doesn't look too bad. Anyone happen to know how the best way to hook up to it from my early 2008 17" MacBook Pro?

    odd

Since Dell was the first to jump on the DisplayPort bandwagon, odd this doesn't include it.

    it has hdmi and vga.

You may be able to go DVI to HDMI.

But you can definitely go DVI on your macbook to VGA (will not look the best thought)

    Cheap monitor

This is just to compete with the $150 cheap displays found in big box stores. Specs do not tell you that white becomes yellow when you move your head one inch to the right.

I don't think this display is anything to get excited about.

    HDMI from Mac

    Lebensmeude,

You can buy a mini-displayport to HDMI adapter from Monoprice for a whopping $9.50. New Egg sells one too.

    Yawn

As to the display I would look for a sale price on something better. This one probably looks and performs terribly.
