Panasonic announces official Lumix GH1 pricing

Panasonic prices GH1

Panasonic on Wednesday officially confirmed the price for its second Micro Four Thirds digital camera, the Lumix GH1. The official price of nearly $1,500 for a bundled kit includes a 14-140mm, f4.0-5.8 lens and matches the unofficial pricing from electronics retailers J&R, revealed just yesterday. Panasonic adds that the camera will ship early in June.

Unlike in Japan, where it's offered in black, red and gold, the GH1 will only be available in black in the US. The GH1 is capable of recording 1080p/24p high-definition videos in the AVCHD (H.264) format, which the new lens is designed to support. Users can also record 60fps video at a reduced 720p resolution. The lens features a silent motor and continuous autofocusing (AF) capability which differentiates it from traditional DSLRs and helps with video recording.

Micro Four Thirds cameras can be smaller than digital SLRs because they do not use an internal mirror and can thus shrink the distance between the lens and the sensor.

    Still resolution?

I have recently seen a trend to give reports on still cameras which report their video stats but no mention of their still capabilities. Are still images now passť in the YouTube and digital picture frame era.

I have visions of "Harry Potter" moving paintings.
