NVIDIA GT300 delayed, more

The release of NVIDIA's GT 300 graphics chipset is now reportedly delayed until the first quarter of 2010, despite a recent leak claiming it would be out this October, according to a slip on Tuesday. The source for the Inquirer believes the delay is due because the tapeout, or the first instance of working silicon, was also held up. The GT 300 line is expected to represent a major architectural change to the GeForce series that may add new rendering features rather than simply speed up earlier designs.

The graphics processor maker is also keeping mum about its GT 210-series chips, which were also recently said to be delayed. Instead, NVIDIA is shifting its focus to 40nm GPUs for notebooks, and it's believed the company is having trouble manufacturing large enough yields of the 40nm chips to ship enough and without boosting the cost.

As for the desktop 40nm parts, it is expected NVIDIA will officially launch them at the Computex trade show at the start of June.
