MacFamilyTree 5.5 launches
Moving out of beta, Synium has issued a polished release of MacFamilyTree 5.5, adding a History Database and a rewritten database engine to its genealogy software. Version 5.5 also delivers a redesigned search feature, an enhanced user interface, a customizable auto-save function and an improved GEDCOM importer. The History Database allows users to cross-reference past figures, events and dates with a personal family tree, and add personal historical data.
The overhauled database engine improves performance for Leopard and especially Tiger Mac OS users. GEDCOM import has likewise been accelerated, and the new search feature can locate persons, families, sources and date entries. Wikipedia integration, new charts for statistic views and numerous small fixes round out code changes.
MacFamilyTree requires Mac OS X 10.4.11 and Safari 3, plus graphics hardware equal or better to a Radeon 7500, GMA 950 or GeForce 4 MX. The software costs $50.
