Consumer Reports on Macs

A recent Consumer Reports issue compared a variety of computer systems, giving high ranks to Apple in several categories. MacBooks received top honors in the 13-inch category, the 14-inch to 16-inch range and the 17-inch lineup. The 15-inch MacBook Pro established the highest score, with 75 out of 100, while the Toshiba Satellite was given a score of 64. Dell and HP devices also established a number of the higher ranks.

Apple showed a slightly weaker presence in the desktop categories, with the Mac mini falling behind the HP Pavillion Slimline. Dell's XPS One beat the iMac in the all-in-one list.

The Mac-maker once again held a clear lead in a comparison of tech support services, taking the first position in the desktop and notebook categories. A 2008 Consumer Reports list also placed Apple ahead of competitors for support services. The company was claimed to reach an 80-percent solve rate for phone services, compared to an industry average of 60-percent, while the Genius Bars achieved a 90-percent solve rate.

The iPhone has shown similar results, recently receiving the highest score on a JD Power consumer-satisfaction study. The handset received a 791 score out of 1000, leading amongst both smartphones and basic cellphones. LG and Samsung were the only two companies to beat the average of 751 in the smartphone category, while BlackBerry devices only achieved a 739 score.

I should not be complaining that much ... CR has only recently seen the light that a computer having Mac OS X on it is not an automatic handicap ... but ...

Seriously guys, I looked at the Dell XPS One. I really did. It's nice.

    But it's no iMac.

Didn't CR just recently give the Mac the time of day? Before that it seems like you couldn't find much. Maybe someone should rate "Consumer Reports."

Like we should listen to Consumer reports, who a few years ago ignored the mac? You might as well start listening to stock analysts.
