CP outs wireless 3G router

Networking hardware maker CP Technologies on Wednesday announced the release of its LevelOne MobileSpot Portable Wireless Hotspot (WBR-3800) 3G router for bridging mobile broadband connections to Wi-Fi. With a compatible 3G adapter inserted into a notebook's CardBus slot or USB port, users can share access to a UMTS, EV-DO, or HSDPA network with any Wi-Fi enabled device through the router. When a regular Internet connection fails, the LevelOne can automatically switch to a 3G network for uninterrupted service.

The MobileSpot supports 802.11b/g on the local link, with security features that include WPA, WPA-PSK/WPA2-PSK authentication with TKIP/AES encryption as well as firewalling when connected to the Internet. The device also gets port forwarding, hidden SSIDs, MAC address filtering and VPN pass-through of PPTP, L2TP and IPSec secured data connections. A 100Mbps Ethernet switch is present for local users in addition to a separate 100Mbps Ethernet port for a typical WAN connection, such as a cable modem or ADSL.

The MobileSpot Portable Wireless Hotspot compatible with both Mac and PC operating systems and is now available for $149.

I think this article might be a little misleading. The Cardbus and USB ports are on this router, not your notebook. This router will accept a 3G wireless signal (via CardBus or USB modem) and convert it to a WiFi signal. So, you can use many computers, iPod Touches/iPhones, anything WiFi with one 3G connection.
