HP readying GeForce 3D Vision-based notebook?

updated 07:25 am EDT, Tue April 28, 2009

HP 3D Notebook Soon

HP is in the last stages of developing a notebook with a built-in 3D display, Taiwan's Commercial Times newspaper said on Tuesday. Well-known contractor Wistron has reportedly been tapped to produce a notebook with GeForce 3D Vision support; the display would likely run at 120Hz and support stereoscopic glasses to simulate extra depth in supported 3D games. It's presumed the system would also have a dedicated NVIDIA graphics chipset needed to drive the two 60Hz pictures at once.

None of the notebook's other features have been outlined, but the system is close enough that shipments would start before the end of the quarter, or no later than June. A system based on the technology is likely to command a higher-than-usual price due to the cost of the display, glasses and GPU needed for the 3D feature.
