Intego ContentBarrier X5
Intego has released a new edition of ContentBarrier DP (Dual Protection), bringing its version up to X5. The software is used by parents to censor Internet content, blocking material such as pornography and more serious concerns such as lurid e-mail and potentially predatory instant messages. Users can choose to filter particular categories of content, or otherwise prevent access to entire applications.
The software also permits the creation of schedules which halt Internet access during certain hours, and can record all Internet activity, sending out e-mail notifications if specific criteria is met. Other spying features in the app include automated screenshots, and a web administration tool which permits remote tracking.
Unique to DP is a bundled copy of Profil's Parental Filter 2, which works in Windows and mainly filters webpages by URL or category. Though duplicating many of the features of ContentBarrier, e-mails and instant messaging are not tracked. ContentBarrier X5 DP costs $60 new, or $50 as an upgrade from X4. The Mac half requires Mac OS X 10.4, while the Windows software requires XP or Vista, and the use of Boot Camp, VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop.
