Suggestion:
Get a cheap, resold version of Logic Pro 7, and then buy the $200 full upgrade.
I bought the student version of LP7 ($350) in 2004 (only works on one machine at a time thanks to USB dongle) and got a full version of 8 for only $200.
By now, there must be some reselling student versions out there for cheap, if not the full version.
