BlackBerry 9630 named the Tour, due in summer?

updated 04:05 pm EDT, Thu April 23, 2009

BlackBerry Tour Leak

The BlackBerry 9630 is likely to show up with a new name and slightly later than expected if a leak proves true. Originally codenamed the Niagra, the phone is now reported by BGR as poised to become the BlackBerry Tour and may be drawing its name from RIM's current sponsorship of the ongoing U2 tour. The same tip also points to an early summer release instead of the spring launch anticipated in the past.

The 9630 or Tour will represent the first current-generation QWERTY BlackBerry for CDMA carriers and will have many of the better features of the Bold and Curve 8900, including 3G, GPS and a high-density 480x360 display. Most expect it to appear on Verizon first, though Sprint and Canadian carriers Bell and Telus are also very likely candidates for the smartphone.
