iPhone becomes teleprompte
As camcorders continue to shrink, so has the venerable teleprompter -- to the size of an iphone. Bodelin Technologies has created an iPhone app and several accessories that turn an iphone or iPod Touch into a teleprompter.
The ProPrompter app is free, and comes with a 30-day trial subscription to the company's online script management service. Users can store unlimited scripts online, and download them from within the iPhone app. Bodelin is also selling a camera hood, called the ProMag, that works much like a traditional prompter, projecting magnified text from the iPhone screen onto a mirror in front of the lens. Another gadget -- the ProPrompter Wing -- holds the iphone in landscape view on a clamp beside the camera.
Except for the price of the iPhone, the package provides a relatively low cost prompter alternative for Documentary producers, video podcasters and prosumer filmmakers. The iPhone app allows users to adjust the size and orientation of prompter text, and includes on-screen help.
The ProPrompter iPhone app is not yet available, as it is still awaiting App Store approval. The ProPrompter Wing bracket sells for $129, and is discounted to $99 during NAB. The Pro-Mag unit comes with a one-year subscription to the online script service and sells for $995 -- on sale during NAB for $695.
