Blackmagic intros routers

Blackmagic Design is adding two new Videohub routers, and has updated software for the line. Announced at NAB, the Enterprise VideoHub has a 144x288 SDI capacity, while the new Studio Videohub is a 16x32 model. Blackmagic has also released VideoHub 4.0 software for Mac OS X and Windows featuring a new interface.

The two new routers are designed to complement the 72x144 Broadcast Videohub, released at NAB last year. The routers support 3GB/s SDI technology with SD, HD and 2K switching. The Enterprise Videohub is designed for large-scale production or broadcast facilities and is expected to sell for $30,000. The Studio Videohub is intended for small post-production workgroups, with a price tag of $5,000.

Blackmagic calls its new router software an important development as it features button-like controls that support touchscreen computers like HP's TouchSmart line. Users can choose from a variety of icons of popular video equipment to design buttons, and the layout itself is customizable.

The software has three Button View control panel styles; two are full-screen views designed for monitors or iMacs dedicated as router control panels. The third Button View control panel is a smaller version, designed to be opened in a window on an editor's desktop.

Videohub 4.0 will be available as a free download to existing customers in May.
