Adobe updates Premiere Pro, plans scriptwriting app

Adobe previews "Story"

Adobe is previewing a new scriptwriting application at NAB this week and has announced an update to Premiere Pro CS4. The new application, called Story, is being designed for collaborative scriptwriting for film and broadcast.

Adobe says that Story is in the "early stages of development" and will be integrated with other Creative Suite applications. Described as an "online and offline product," Story will tie into the pre-production stages of video workflows.

The company has also announced Premiere Pro CS4 4.1. The free update improves control over RAW settings, when used with a soon-to-be-released plug-in for RED cameras. The update further enables Pro to import Avid Media Composer projects without recapturing media files, and includes fixes enabling full HD workflows with AJA, Blackmagic and Matrox video cards. Pro 4.1 is expected to be released in late May through the Adobe updater.

The integration of this 'Story' app with the rest of the Production Suite will have to be incredibly tight to make the industry think about ditching 'Final Draft' in favour of this thing. I can't think of any professional outlet or team that doesn't use FD for script. Even independent spec writers know that scripts delivered in FD have a better chance of being read than anything else.
