4Big Quadra gets bundled
LaCie is expanding its Quadra line, offering three 4Big Quadra Bundles, grouping multiple volumes for up to 32TB of storage. The bundles are based on grouping individual 4Big Quadras, which are now available with up to 8TB of storage per unit. Used in conjunction with the LaCie eSATA II PCI Express Card 3Gb/s, up to four 4Big units can be attached and run in seven RAID options, including 0 (striping) and 5 (a balance between performance and redundancy)
The 4-unit bundles support 700MB/sec transfer speeds and come with a rescue kit including a spare drive, while all the bundles offer hot-swap capabilities and Firewire 800/400/USB 2.0 connections in addition to the primary eSATA ports.
The three configurations include a 2-unit bundle incorporating 2 4TB 4Big Quadras and the PCI Express card, and a pair of four unit models, one a 16TB bundle, the other a 32TB group, both including the PCI card and rescue kit. Each bundle features standby modes for reduced power consumption, a Noctua cooling system and modular aluminum casings.
Each bundle arrives with Intego Backup Manager Pro for Macs and Genie Backup Manager Pro for Windows users. The LaCie 2x4big Quadra Bundle is $2,000, the LaCie 16TB 4x4big Quadra Bundle with Rescue Kit is $4,000 and the LaCie 32TB 4x4big Quadra Bundle with Rescue Kit is $8,000. The bundles require Mac OS X 10.4.6 or Windows XP 64-bit/Windows Vista.
