QlikView GPS-enabled business app for iPhone

updated 10:35 am EDT, Fri April 17, 2009

QlikView comes to iPhone

QlikTech has brought its QlikView business analysis software to the iPhone. The app makes use of built-in GPS to provide site-specific business data. An executive touring a company warehouse, for example, can get sales data specifically related to that facility. The data is formatted specifically for the iPhone, unlike some apps which may simply shrink full-sized reports to fit the smaller screen.

The app also makes use of multi-touch gestures, Cover Flow-style displays and the iPhone's motion sensor. Users can "drill down" into large collections of data, using finger gestures to select desired items. A quick shake clears the selection.

Deighton tells MacNN the company is also working on Java-based client software for other mobile devices, including BlackBerries, but that the iPhone's features are better suited for displaying and navigating business data. More features are expected to come when Apple updates the iPhone firmware to v3.0.

QlikView for iPhone is free, but requires a server running the company's software.
