Acer 3935 and 8935 for US

Acer on Wednesday updated its Aspire notebooks for the US with more details of the 3935 and 8935 models destined for the country. The 3935 is Acer's most direct competition for the unibody MacBook and measures just 1 inch thick while weighing less than 4.2 pounds. It also centers on a 13.3-inch, LED-backlit screen but has a 16:9 ratio, 1366x768 resolution and a bronze-colored aluminum skin. Also partly influenced by Apple are a chiclet-style keyboard and a multi-touch trackpad for scrolling and zooming.

In American guise, the 3935 comes in a single $900 trim level with a 2GHz Core 2 Duo, 3GB of DDR3 memory, a 250GB hard drive, 802.11n Wi-Fi and GMA 4500MHD integrated video; Acer keeps costs low by using a 4-cell battery. Acer is already shipping this smaller model.

The 8935G represents the system builder's second-generation Gemstone design with a sleeker case, subtler dedicated media controls, and the same keyboard and multi-touch trackpad designs as the 3935. It gets an 18.4-inch, 1080p LED-backlit display and a new-generation Dolby-capable sound system with a built-in amp.

Its specifications are still incomplete but are now known to include a Mobility Radeon HD 4670 for graphics and a 4X Blu-ray burner for its optical drive. Permanent storage should extend up to as much as 1TB across two drives. The 10.1-pound desktop replacement should be available in the US as of June, when it should have more definitive specifications.
