Office 2008 Mac trial
Microsoft has released a trial edition of Office 2008 for Mac. The download is free, but operates only for 30 days before a paid registration key is required, at which point it can be converted into either a Standard or Home & Student edition. Included as part of the trial are versions of Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Messenger and the Entourage mail client.

I never understood why Microsoft uses years to market the names of their software, it makes their products, even new, look outdated...

Their iWork and iLife suites are based on the name of the year as well. As long as they do a 2 year update cycle, it makes complete sense.
Now, what's the difference between the standard edition and the home and student edition? Oh, nothing, but you pay more for the standard edition.

Well, it could be worse. Apple sells iLife by year, but then releases updates (as they just did) using version numbers. Which would be fine except the products that make up iLife have different version numbers.
Plus, is iMovie v8 the iLife 09 version?
