LaCie Rugged XL 1TB

LaCie on Tuesday expanded its Rugged series of hard drives with the Rugged XL, a larger variant that doubles the storage capacity to 1TB. The device features an aluminum casing and rubber sleeve for protection. Internally, the drive is also supported using a bumper to help absorb shock and prevent damage from an accidental drop.

The drive supports both USB 2.0 and eSATA 3Gbps interfaces, along with Windows or Mac operating systems. The company also provides a software bundle with LaCie Setup Assistant, Genie Backup Assistant for Windows and Intego Backup Assistant for Mac.

The Rugged XL hard drive is only available with 1TB of storage and will carry a price of $160.

    No Lacie For Me

    Lacie [had] the reputation of being one of the best makers of external hard drives but I invested heavily in their 2TB external only to have it go south on me within 10 months. I had thousands of important records on it, from patients to business, all quite sensitive. Lacie officials were useless offering little to no advice on how to retrieve the data. "Sorry, can't help..." was their response altho they would offer a replacement. I vowed then to never buy another Lacie product and I advise others of my experience.

    Lacie=No For Me As Well

    Maybe I just got a bum drive, IDK, but my first ever external was a 250Gb Porsche designed FW400 drive from them, and within days, literally, the drive wouldn't mount. Thankfully I hadn't deleted the files I had moved to it, so I didn't loose any data, but since then, it's been all G-Tech and OWC for me.
